MLB Playoff Thread

The Yankees looked good, and the Twins had their typical collapse.  I don't know why the Yankees dominate the Twins so much.

As for the most clutch pitcher in baseball argument:
CC Sabathia: 4 Runs, lucky win
Cliff Lee: 1 ER, solid win
Roy Halladay:  No Hitter.

Enough said.

Also, looks like the Rangers might be just a bit frisky, Ben.  Of course, we'll see what happens when they don't have Cliff Lee pitching.

  1. Let's have a little playoff chatter. I'm rooting for a Texas Rangers v Philadelphia Phillies world series. Best of luck to Roy Oswalt. I hope he gets a ring.

  2. hahahaha Rangers will not get past the Rays, i'm not even sure we will. CC Sabathia will likely have two more rings than everyone else on that list in a month so let's not worry about it. Yankees offense is too good for every other team in either league, regardless of their pitching. game over, Derek Jeter has 6 championship rings... Kobe, good luck playing catch up. the 30 for 30 was sick btw, the house that steinbrenner built will be going for 29 come 2011.

  3. I've missed too many of the 30 for 30's. Which of the other ones do you recommend? The Miami Hurricanes one was awesome, but then I didn't like the ones about Matt Hoffman or the guy walking across Canada. I'm sure you didn't like 4 days in October, but it did look really good.

  4. haven't seen the Bosox one and obviously won't bother to watch that bullshit. Yanks one wasn't that sweet unless you like the Yanks. Hurricanes was the sickest one so far in my opinion, but the Two Escobars one was a very close second and is also awesome... there have been a few other good ones too i'll look back through my DVR and get you the names later but definitely watch the Escobars one.

  5. The Reggie Miller one was sick. I'm in a cool MLB playoffs league for money, here's what I submitted (before yesterday obviously). The league rewards you not only for correct picks, but how close you were in game numbers.

    Giants over Braves in 5
    Phillies over Reds in 3
    Rangers over Rays in 4
    Yankees over Twins in 5

    Phillies over Giants in 5
    Rangers over Yankees in 7

    Phillies over Rangers in 6

    Tiebreakers:
    Most HRs-- Ryan Howard
    Most Ks-- Roy Halladay

  6. that's sick... the only cash league i'm in right now is our frat fantasy football which i'm happy to say Arian Foster is stealing for me right now.

i'd take (this is me predicting honestly as if i didn't know what happened yesterday, obvi that'd change things)

    Giants over Braves in 4
    Phillies over Reds in 3
    Rays over Rangers in 4
    Yanks over Twinks in 3

    Phillies over Giants in 6
    Yankees over Rays in 7

    Yankees over Phillies in 6

    most HRs- Robinson Cano
    most Ks- Roy Halladay

  7. Yeah it's pretty cool, my Compsci friend designed this website for it and is going to be looking to expand its reaches next year, so I'll let you know.

If you want to keep score at home, here's how it works. Scoring is "golf" style aka points are bad.

If you pick the winner of the series correctly, you get one point for each game you were off by (ie you pick Rays in 4, but the Rays win in 5 and you get 1 point).

If you pick the winner of the series incorrectly, you get a 5 point penalty in addition to points for how many games you were off by (so if you pick Rays in 4, but the Rangers win in 4, then you get 5 points for picking the wrong team, and 3 points for being off by 3 games, for a total of 8 points. I know that's kind of confusing, but try and follow me. If you picked Rays in 4, then Rays in 5 would be off by one, Rangers in 5 would be off by two, and Rangers in 4 would be off by 3. Hence in the scenario above you would get 8 total points).

haha I'll let you know how you fare

  9. rays are going down tomorrow. They aren't gonna be able to handle Cliff Lee

  10. we shall see... i def hope so for my Yanks sake but my bet has been the whole time that the two best teams in baseball will battle it out for the right to beat the Phils in the series, so i'll stick with that prediction

I guess the Texas Rangers with Cliff Lee is one of the two best teams in baseball.
